Connecting to Karbon

  1. Navigate to the Apps tab and click the Karbon tile

  2. Once connected, you’ll see Sync settings and Workflow settings.

Under Sync settings, you'll have the option to sync the Client Name or nothing. We suggest ensuring this is set to Client Name.

Click Confirm when you are done.

(Note: This is a one way sync from Karbon to Ignition)

Under Workflow settings, you'll see an option to enable workflow automation, which allows you to deploy work items in Karbon from Ignition.

We suggest you enable this toggle all the time as you'll always have the option to choose not to deploy any work items whenever you like.

Click Save when you are done.

You'll also need to select a Default assignee. You can change this any assignee within the Automations step in the proposal editor whenever you want.

Again, click Save when you are done.

  3. Once you have checked your Sync and Workflow settings, click Enable app to turn the Karbon integration on.

Mapping Ignition services to Karbon work items

You can map Karbon work items to your Ignition services by navigating to a specific service in Ignition → Apps tab → Link Karbon work item.

This will help save you time during the Workflow step of the proposal editor when you are creating a proposal.

Note: You can also add more than one Karbon work item to one Ignition service if you wish. This can be useful if you offer packaged services.

Importing and mapping Karbon client details

You can import your clients into Ignition directly from Karbon in the Clients tab → Import → Karbon.

Click here to learn more about importing your clients from an connected app.

To change or edit a client’s Karbon mapping, navigate to a specific client record → Edit → Apps tab → Karbon mapping

Creating Karbon work items from Ignition proposals

Once you've enabled the Karbon integration, you’ll see a step called Automations within the proposal editor. This is where you can create work items in Karbon which are based on the services inside of the proposal.

The work items populated here are linked to the services that are added in the Services step. See this section for more information.

You'll need to ensure that person is assigned to each work item that is created. Ignition will be unable to deploy a work item without an assigned person.

If you do not want a work item to be deployed, simply select Don't create work in the Karbon work item dropdown menu.

If you want to deploy more Karbon work items that aren't listed in the Automations step, click Add other work and select the specific work items and assignees required.

Budget

Due to technical limitations, we are currently unable to set a budget from Ignition. The budget for the work item will be set by the work template inside of Karbon. If you wish to change this, please navigate to your Karbon account to manage this.

Recurring work items

If you have set up any work items to be recurring, you will need to manage them in Karbon.

Ignition only deploys the work items specified in the Automations step at the start. Once it has been deployed, you'll need to navigate to your Karbon account to manage them.

Creating a new client in the proposal editor

If you are creating a work item from an Ignition proposal, The Ignition client must be mapped to a client in Karbon. This can be done by either linking an Ignition client to an existing Karbon client, or creating the Ignition client as a New client in Karbon.

If creating a new client, you’ll need to choose whether the client should be created as a Person or Organization in Karbon.

Then, clicking on the Create client button will create them in Karbon at that moment as a “Prospect” client type. Once the proposal is accepted, the client type will be updated from “Prospect” to “Client”.

FAQ

Can I create recurring work in Karbon?

The work that is created in Karbon will follow the rules set by the Karbon work template. You can manage the recurrence of the work in Karbon once it is created.

Can I see a reference to the created work within Ignition?

We don't currently surface this information within Ignition due to technical limitations. We recommend using Ignition to deploy the work items first and then using Karbon to manage them thereafter.

I've made changes to my Karbon work templates, how can I import them into Ignition?

After you have created your Karbon work template, navigate to Apps → Karbon and click Sync. This will sync your current templates available in Karbon to Ignition and allow you to then map them to your Ignition services.
