Re-mapping Ignition Clients to your Single Client Record in Xero

Learn how to re-map clients between Ignition and Xero if you've merged or archived client records from XPM or Xero HQ.

With the upcoming changes to a Single Client Record for XPM practices, you may have merged or archived client records from XPM or Xero HQ.

We automatically link your clients in Ignition to your clients in Xero based on an exact name match. If you have chosen a single client record that does not have the same name, it can cause invoices to fail to deploy in Xero.

To avoid invoice deployment failures, you’ll need to re-map your Ignition client record to the client record in Xero you have chosen for your Single Client Record.

Then, you may need to re-issue any invoices that have not been created.

How to re-map a client record

To change the Xero mapping of an Ignition client, navigate into Clients → Select a client record → Edit Client.

From here, click the Apps tab and click into the field box under App Client Mappings.

You should see your typing cursor start blinking. Then, type in the name of the relevant client (the correct, Single Client Record) in Xero.

The system will find all the the matches. Keep typing the exact client name as it appears in Xero if you want to get more specific.

Select the correct relevant client record in Xero.

Then click Save.


Xero invoice creation errors

If your invoice has failed to generate in your Xero ledger, you can re-create the invoice.

Remember that if you've experienced invoice generation errors due to merging or archiving client records from XPM or Xero HQ, you must complete the re-mapping step first!

After taking the appropriate actions to re-map, you can re-create the invoice.

To do this, navigate to your client's Invoices tab → Select a specific invoice.

Then, click the three dots on the right-hand panel → Click Create in Xero.

You will see the invoice generate in Xero after some time. This usually only takes a few minutes, but depending on Xero it can take up to an hour.
