Client Groups help you organize and manage related clients more easily. This guide walks you through how to create, view, and manage Client Groups in Ignition.

Create a New Client Group

Creating a new client group can be done by clicking the dropdown arrow next to the + New client button and selecting the Create Client Group button.

After clicking the button, you will be given the option to enter the name for the new client group and assign a client to the group. A client group must contain at least one client.

After a client has been assigned to a client group, the client group will show up in the client details.

Clients can also be added to a Client Group by selecting the appropriate group when reviewing the client details.

Viewing and Managing Client Groups

Client groups will also be displayed in the Clients section under the client name.

Note: If you have client groups created in your connected ledger, they will be synced over to Ignition.

Clicking on the client group name here will allow you to manage the Client Group.

Client Groups can also be filtered for by selecting the Client group name filter on the Clients Page.

Managing client groups in bulk

If you need to review and update many client groups at once, you can do this efficiently by using the client export/import CSV.

  1. From the Clients tab, click Export → Clients to generate a CSV export of your current client list. The file will be emailed to you.

  2. Download and open the CSV file, then locate the Client Group Name column.

  3. In the Client Group Name column, add or update the appropriate client group for each client.

You can assign a client to an existing client group by entering the exact client group name, or create a new client group simply by entering a new name in this column.

  4. Once you’ve finished updating the Client Group Name values and are happy with how your clients are grouped, save the CSV file.

  5. Navigate back to the Clients tab and use the Import → Upload CSV option to re‑import your updated file and apply the changes in bulk.

After the import completes successfully, all updated client group assignments will be reflected in your Clients tab and in each client’s details, allowing you to manage and report on client groups at scale.
