Service Details

Service name

Give your service a name in the Name field. If you want your clients to see a different name, use the Display a different name to clients (service alias) option described below.

Display name / Service alias

Display name / Service alias gives you more control over the service names your clients see, while keeping your internal service library and reporting organized. You can add a client-facing alias to a service in your library, or customize it on a per-proposal basis.

This helps your proposals, engagement letters, acceptance experience, and invoices use language that matches the work your client expects, without changing the service names you rely on internally.

Service Category

Use the Category field to organize your service. You can select an existing category or type a new one to create it. Categories help keep your service library tidy and easier to search.

Service Description

Next, add a Service Description. This is where you outline the deliverables of the service for the client. You can customize the description for each client when creating a proposal.

🚀 Utilize our AI-enabled Service Description feature to quickly create professional, compelling service descriptions using AI within Ignition to save time. You can then Regenerate, Refine (Elaborate, Shorten or Simplify), or Use the result. Learn more in Writing service descriptions.

As best practice, we recommend the following structure (where applicable):

  • Deliverables: What you will do for your client?

  • Software: What software will your client be interacting with to complete this service?

  • Limitations: What is considered out of scope of this service?

  • Timeline: When you expect to complete this service. If it's a recurring service, how often the deliverables will be completed?

Please note:

  • Placeholders will not work in service descriptions. However, they will be usable in Service Terms.

  • Images are not supported in service descriptions or service terms.

Pricing

Next, select a Billing Type and define a price for your service.

  • Price type: how the service is priced (e.g. Fixed, Unit, Minimum or Price range)

  • Price: the amount you charge.

  • Tax rate: the tax applied to this service (Tip: Navigate to your Settings → Tax tab to choose if you want to display price including or excluding tax).

  • Billing mode: how and when the service is billed.

You are now setting a default price for the service. Remember, you can always customize this on a per-client basis on their proposals! When you do, the service template will not be affected.

Service Terms

If you have specific terms and conditions for your service, you can add these by clicking on Terms. Scroll down and add your service-specific terms and conditions in the Service terms field.

These can be dynamically included in your engagement letter template when this service is selected.

Note: Turning the toggle off after adding terms will delete those terms when you save the service.
