Send proposals (and any other Ignition link) from your own domain (e.g., proposals.youragency.com) so clients experience a professional and trustworthy link that aligns with your business. If you’d like to give your clients an even more customized and integrated experience, consider using a custom domain.

Let's explore adding a custom domain to your client's experience.

Consistent brand presence with your own domain

From the first click to the final signature, reinforce trust and elevate your brand perception by keeping every interaction under your own domain. Presenting proposals through a custom domain reinforces credibility, builds trust, and maintains full control over the client experience.

For a more tailored and cohesive client experience, leverage a custom domain to present your brand seamlessly across every interaction.

Technical Set Up Instructions

To set up your Custom Domain, first, select a provider and then follow the technical instructions below to ensure your domain correctly links to Ignition.

Note: we’ve provided a list of popular providers and their instructions at the bottom of this support article

Set up CNAME record

  1. Add a new DNS record - select CNAME as the Type

  2. Name - this should be a name that shows up in the URL. If you want your URLs to say http://client.yourdomain.com then you need to name the host “client”. This name can be whatever you like and here are some other examples:

    1. access

    2. agreeement

    3. services

    4. hub

  3. Value: This is important to get right so the target/value is properly linked to Ignition, this should point to proxy.ignitionapp.com

  4. TTL: This can be left with what is currently set.

  5. Copy the new domain URL once set up

See GoDaddy example below (click to enlarge image)

⚠️ Please note: You have to set up your new DNS record as a CNAME record.

The following types will not work:

  • A Record

  • A + Dynamic DNS Record

  • AAAA Record

  • ALIAS Record

  • CAA Record

  • NS Record

  • SRV Record

  • TXT Record

  • URL Redirect Record

Enter your domain in Ignition

  1. Log in to your Ignition account, navigate to the SettingsBranding.

  2. Paste your domain into the custom domain field to save your new URL in Ignition

  3. Wait for the URL to be verified

    1. Please note: It may take up to 48 hours for a DNS record to get updated, but it’s usually about an hour.

  4. Check your domain health check page to know if your new domain is ready to use:

If you see the domain verified response, you can now return to the Branding settings and activate your domain

If you see anything but the above verified message, the set up it not complete then you will need to try again later. An example of a page you will see until the domain is verified is site can't be reached response:

  5. Once verified, clients will land on your domain when they click on any of the links shared by you from Ignition.

FAQ

Do I need to have an valid/current SSL certificate for this domain?

Yes, setting up the CNAME alone is not enough. Some domain management systems automatically manage certificates across all the domains. You’ll need to check your setup to know if you need to separately obtain the SSL certificate.

Do I need to set up any site redirects?
No, if you have any redirects in place this will most likely impact the Ignition custom domain and make your Ignition links unaccessible by your clients.

What do I do if I’ve waited 48 hours and the Ignition health check page still is coming back in an error?
We recommend double checking that the CNAME setup is completed, especially the Name and Value fields have been filled in correctly based on the technical instructions in this article and with the Ignition branding settings.

If the problem persists, please reach out to Ignition support at help@ignitionapp.com
