Why should I enable payments in Ignition?
Ignition Payments helps you get paid faster, reduce admin, and eliminate awkward chasing. By collecting client payment details upfront and automating billing, you’ll ensure cash flow is predictable and reliable.
Who processes payments in Ignition?
Ignition partners with Stripe, one of the world’s leading global payment processors.
Does Ignition store client payment details?
No, Ignition never stores full credit card or bank details. All sensitive information is tokenized and securely held by Stripe. Stripe securely stores all payment information using tokenization and PCI DSS Level 1 compliance (the highest standard).
Can I trial Ignition payments first?
Yes, you can trial Ignition payments during your Ignition account trial.
During your trial, you'll pay zero transaction fees up to $10,000/£6,000 in payment collections, and all payments processed during your trial will remain in your account without disruption if you choose to sign up.
Does Ignition help with ledger reconciliation? If so, how?
Yes! When invoices are raised in Ignition and payment is collected from your client, Ignition automatically marks them as paid in your ledger.
You'll still need to reconcile the payouts you receive, but Ignition makes this easy.
You can create a bank rule in Xero or a transfer rule in Quickbooks to streamline your reconciliation process.
What are the different ways I can get paid?
There are various different ways you can get paid using Ignition, including:
Automatic payments from your proposals
Instant bill for out-of-scope work (without a proposal)

What are the fees for using Ignition Payments?
Credit cards: This depends on your region as well card type (standard or premium cards). This can range between 1.3% to 3.6% + $0.30 or £0.20 per transaction.

ACH/Direct Debit/PAD/BACS: This depends on your region. Rates start from 1% + $0.30 per transaction ($5 or £4 max).
Note: An additional fee of 0.3% applies to payments above $3,000 or £2,000.

What are the differences between standard and premium credit cards?
Standard cards include:
MasterCard, VISA and Discover consumer credit and debit cards that are not linked to specialty rewards programs.
Premium cards include:
Most MasterCard, VISA, Discover, and AMEX business/corporate credit and debit cards.
MasterCard, VISA, Discover, and AMEX credit cards linked to specialty rewards programs (i.e. Qantas, Velocity, Bank rewards...etc).
Note: Depending on your country, it may be common for credit cards to have rewards programs attached, causing premium credit card processing fees to be applied.

Can I pass on card processing fees to my clients?
Yes, you can choose to transparently pass on part of the processing fee to clients. Many firms encourage ACH/Direct Debit for larger transactions to minimize fees. Learn more about our surcharge feature here.

Payment Processing Times
How long does it take to receive funds?
This varies per country, but typically between 1-2 business days for credit cards and 3-7 business days for direct debit/bank account.
Please note: The first initial payment can take between 3-7 business days to verify your business, however this is usually much quicker. Please watch for our emails if we require more information from you and respond accordingly.
This initial verification timeline applies whether your client pays via direct debit or credit card.
You can still accept and collect payments from your clients, but payouts to your bank account will be held until your business has passed verification.
Can I control when payments are collected?
Yes, payments are automatically collected based on the billing schedule you define in your proposals or instant bills.
Client Experience
Will my clients be comfortable sharing payment details?
Yes, Ignition makes the process simple and transparent. Clients provide details once, and billing happens automatically. You can also share our client-facing trust overview to reassure them about security.
What if a client’s card expires or fails?
You and your client will both be notified. Clients can easily update their details, and Ignition will retry the payment automatically.
